马太福音1:18-20 怜悯罪人的那一位

马太福音 1:18 耶稣基督降生的事记在下面:他母亲马利亚已经许配了约瑟,还没有迎娶,马利亚就从圣灵怀了孕。19 她丈夫约瑟是个义人,不愿意明明地羞辱她,想要暗暗地把她休了。20 正思念这事的时候,有主的使者向他梦中显现,说:「大卫的子孙约瑟,不要怕!只管娶过你的妻子马利亚来,因她所怀的孕是从圣灵来的。

您在这个故事中能看到,为什么上帝选择约瑟作为耶稣在世上的父亲吗?你看,他是一个忠于律法的人,当他发现未婚妻已经怀孕时,就决定与她离婚,因为她对他不忠。但是在约瑟的心中,不仅有律法,而且还有仁慈,而这却不是他那个时代的宗教领袖的特征。这些宗教领袖都是急于咒诅和惩罚那些违反律法的人。耶稣教导他们:“『我喜爱怜恤,不喜爱祭祀。』这句话的意思,你们且去揣摩。我来本不是召义人,乃是召罪人。」(马太福音9:13)。只有那些相信自己是蒙受怜悯的人,才会怜悯别人。而约瑟就是这种人。

这也是上帝想要我们所有人都成为的那种人。他希望我们忠于他的话语,并将其应用到我们生活中的所有情况里。他希望我们看到自己内心的罪恶,但要持定耶稣对我们饶恕的应许。我们不能对自己周围环境和人的罪恶视而不见。但是在行为中,我们记得上帝期望怜悯而不是献祭。我们是被上帝怜悯的不配的罪人,所以也向与我们一样需要怜悯的罪人来伸出援手吧。

祷告:主上帝,请帮助我们忠于您的话语,并让我们明白律法和福音。不仅仅是了解这些单词的定义的神学理解。让我们在日常灵修生活中明白律法和福音,通过每天的悔改,我们每天都被您的怜悯所充满。当我们与周围的人打交道时,帮助我们充以恩典待人。奉靠我们的主,那位透过自己来赐我们恩典的耶稣的名而求。阿们

Matthew 1: 18-20: 18 This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. 19 Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. 20 But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.”

Can you see in this story why God chose Joseph to be the stand-in father Jesus? He was a man who was faithful to the law, and when he found out that his fiance’ was pregnant, he decided to divorce her because she had been unfaithful to him. But in his heart there was not just the law, but mercy as well. That was not characteristic of the religious leaders of his day. They were quick to condemn and to punish anyone who had broken the law. Jesus taught them, “But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners” (Matthew 9:13). Only those who believe in mercy for themselves will be quick to give it to others. That’s the kind of man that Joseph was.


That’s the kind of person that God wants all of us to be. He wants us to be faithful to his Word and to apply it in all the situations of our lives. He wants us to see the sin in ourselves, but to hold to his promises of forgiveness in Jesus. We cannot close our ears and eyes to the sin we see in our culture and in the people around us. But in are actions, we remember that God desires mercy and not sacrifice. We are sinners filled with God’s mercy reaching out to other sinners that need that same mercy as much as we do.

Prayer: Lord God, help us to be faithful to your Word and give us a proper understanding of Law and Gospel. Not just a theological understanding of knowing the definition of those words. Give us a personal understanding of law and gospel in our daily devotional life so that through daily repentance, we are being filled with your mercy every day. And when we deal with people around us, help us to do so in the spirit of a grace filled heart. I ask this in Jesus’ name, through him we have received grace upon grace. Amen.

马太福音1:21-25 以马内利

Matthew 1: 22-25: 22 All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”). 24 When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. 25 But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

The virgin birth and “Immanuel” go way back to Isaiah 7:14, when God gave this prophecy as a sign against the unbelieving Ahaz. To this day, there are many who call themselves Christians, but who refuse to believe that a virgin could have a child. Why would they doubt this essential truth of our Christian faith? Can’t they see that the nature of the Christ, God and man in one person, is wrapped up in the virgin birth?

For us, the virgin birth and the name Immanuel are very precious. Immanuel means “God with us.” It means that God became one of us by assuming human flesh. It means that our God has experienced the hardships of life that we experience, and he knows what it is like. He can sympathize with our weaknesses and help us in our times of trouble. It means that God took on frail flesh and died in our place.

I don’t want the kind of gods like the Greeks worshipped, gods that played with people like puppets, gods who looked “human” only in the petty quarrels and their selfish desires. I don’t want a god like the ones that are worshipped today, gods of science which deny anything beyond this life as being real. I don’t want gods of wealth and success, which only demand more and more and more. Give me a God like Immanuel, who loved us enough to become our brother and carry on his shoulders our sins and sorrows. Oh, come, Immanuel!

Prayer: Jesus, you are our Immanuel. Why should the Son of God come down from heaven to rescue such as ourselves? There can only be one reason. Only love can explain who you are and why you came to dwell among us and be one of us. Thank you for sharing our human experience, for being tested as we are tested, and for carrying on your shoulders the burden of our sins. Amen.
