希伯来书3:1-6：1同蒙天召的圣洁弟兄啊，你们应当思想我们所认为使者、为大祭司的耶稣。2他为那设立他的尽忠，如同摩西在神的全家尽忠一样。3他比摩西算是更配多得荣耀，好像建造房屋的比房屋更尊荣。4因为房屋都必有人建造，但建造万物的就是神。5摩西为仆人，在神的全家诚然尽忠，为要证明将来必传说的事。6但基督为儿子，治理神的家；我们若将可夸的盼望和胆量坚持到底，便是他的家了。
《希伯来书》的作者阐释了一个简单而有逻辑的论点，即，为什么耶稣比摩西更尊荣。摩西在上帝的全家尽忠。作者不会梦想拿走摩西一丝一毫的荣誉。但建造房屋的比房子的仆人更伟大，而耶稣过去是、现在也是上帝之家的建造者。我们因为耶稣，而不是摩西，在上帝的家中有一席之地。
你是否喜欢《希伯来书》的作者在这里称呼我们的方式吗？他称我们“同蒙天召的圣洁弟兄姐妹。”我未必感到圣洁。当我看到自己的罪，我的感受是自己并不圣洁。但是通过信心的眼睛，我看自己的方式如同上帝和我的救主。因为耶稣洗净了我们的罪，我们在上帝的眼中成为圣洁。如果这是上帝定意称呼我的方式，那我就该听从上帝的话，告诉我自己这都是真的。
马丁·路德非常喜欢用一句拉丁语来描述我们：“simul pecator, simul iustus.”意思是同时是罪人和圣徒，或者既是罪人也是义人。怪不得我对自己的身份有着复杂的情绪。但只要我在基督里，我的真实身份就是圣徒。那就是我真实的身份。
祷告：主耶稣，谢谢你让我将自己看作是圣徒，而不是罪人。我并没有因为我的罪被定义。我并没有因为我犯下的最严重的罪被定义，也没有因为我的弱点从而与我的生命紧紧相连的罪而被定义。我是你的，你也是我的。我成为圣洁，是因为你用你的宝血洗净并救赎了我。求你帮助我履行从你那里领受的属天的呼召，阿们。
Hebrews 3: Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest. 2 He was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house. 3 Jesus has been found worthy of greater honor than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself. 4 For every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything. 5 “Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house,” bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future. 6 But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.
The writer to the Hebrews makes a simple and logical argument about why Jesus is better than Moses. Moses was faithful in God’s house. He wouldn’t dream of taking away a shred of honor from Moses. But the builder of the house is greater than a servant in the house, and Jesus was and is the builder of God’s house. We have our place in God’s house because of Jesus, not because of Moses.
Do you love how the writer to the Hebrews addresses us here? He calls us “holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling.” I don’t necessarily feel holy. I look at my sins and I feel just the opposite of holy. But through the eyes of faith, I can look at myself the way my God and my Savior looks at me. Because Jesus washed us clean from our sins, we are holy in the sight of God. If that is how God has chosen to call me, then I must listen to what God says and tell myself that this is true.
Martin Luther was fond of a Latin phrase that describes us – “simul pecator, simul iustus.” At the same time both sinner and a saint, or both sinner and justified. It is small wonder that I have mixed emotions about my identity! But as long as I am in Jesus, my real identity is a “holy one,” a saint. That is who I really am.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for letting me see myself as a saint instead of a sinner! I am not defined by my sin. I am not defined by the worst sin I have committed, or by that sin that clings to my life because of my weaknesses. I am yours and you are mine. I am holy because I have been washed and redeemed by your blood. Help me to up to the heavenly calling that I have in you! Amen.
