希伯来书：1:1-4：1神既在古时藉着众先知多次多方的晓谕列祖，2就在这末世，藉着他儿子晓谕我们，又早已立他为承受万有的，也曾借着他创造诸世界。3他是神荣耀所发的光辉，是神本体的真像，常用他权能的命令托住万有。他洗净了人的罪，就坐在高天至大者的右边。4他所承受的名，既比天使的名更尊贵，就远超过天使。
回想一下，上帝有时候允许他的选民瞥见他的荣光。他化装成与两个天使同行的旅行者向亚伯拉罕显现。上帝在荆棘火焰中临近摩西，但这让他感到害怕。上帝在西奈山上向摩西显现他的荣光，但在他磐石穴中遮盖了摩西，只给他留下经过的背影。对以利亚也是如此，上帝在安静细小的声音中向他显现。上帝为什么要隐藏自己？因为罪人无法活着看见上帝完全的荣耀。
上帝将最好的留到最后。他藉着向先知说话来显现他自己。但是现在他拣选了自己的儿子耶稣向我们显现他的荣光。上帝就隐藏在基督里，这种显现的方式使我们能够活着看到他的荣光。换句话说，如果你想看见上帝，就来了解耶稣吧。为什么？因为耶稣就是上帝。他是上帝荣耀所发的光辉，是上帝本体的真像。是他在十字架上为我们的罪流血，并显现了上帝神圣的拯救计划。
今天开始这本新书令我非常兴奋，因为《希伯来书》讲的都是耶稣。耶稣高过天使，耶稣高过摩西，高过大祭司，甚至高过旧约本身。《希伯来书》的作者向他的犹太读者表明，他们没有理由回转到过去所行的道。当我们不断阅读并研习这本书，我们会发现旧约所行的道其实也是在谈论耶稣。记住这点：如果你想了解上帝，那么就来了解耶稣吧。

Listen: Hebrews 1: In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, 2 but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. 3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. 4 So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.
Think of the times when God permitted one of his people to get a glimpse of his glory. He appeared to Abraham disguised as a traveler along with two angels. God came to Moses in a burning bush and it made him afraid. God showed Moses his glory on Mount Sinai, but covered him in a cleft of a rock and only gave him a glimpse of his passing. He did the same with Elijah, when God showed himself in a still small voice. Why hide himself? Because sinful man cannot bear to see God in all his glory and live.
God saved the best for last. He revealed himself through the prophets as he spoke his Word through them. But now he has chosen to reveal his glory to us through his Son, Jesus. God hid himself in Christ so that he could reveal his glory to us in a way that we could bear to see it. In other words, if you want to see God, then get to know Jesus. Why? Because Jesus is God. He is the radiance of God’s glory. He is the exact representation of his being. And he is the one that revealed to us God’s divine plan to save us by shedding his blood on the cross for our sins.
I am excited to start this new book today because Hebrews is all about Jesus. Jesus is better than the angels, better than Moses, better than the high priest or the old covenant. The writer to the Hebrews argues to his Jewish audience that there was no reason to go back to the old ways. As we read and study it, we will see how the old ways from the Old Testament were really about Jesus anyway. Remember this. If you want to know God, then get to know Jesus.
Prayer: Dear Father in heaven, thank you for giving us your Son, Jesus, to be our Savior and for revealing your glory to us through him. Help us to fix our eyes on him, the Author and Perfecter of our faith. We ask this in your name. Amen.
