哥林多前书3:18-23：18人不可自欺。你们中间若有人在这世界自以为有智慧，倒不如变作愚拙，好成为有智慧的。19因这世界的智慧，在神看是愚拙。如经上记着说：“主叫有智慧的，中了自己的诡计。”20又说：“主知道智慧人的意念是虚妄的。”21所以无论谁，都不可拿人夸口，因为万有全是你们的。22或保罗，或亚波罗，或矶法，或世界，或生，或死，或现今的事，或将来的事，全是你们的。23并且你们是属基督的，基督又是属神的。
在《登山宝训》中耶稣说：“温柔的人有福了，因为他们必承受地土”（马太福音5章5节）。对世人来说，这可算是最愚蠢的话了，他们认为八福的其余部分也是如此愚蠢。对世人来说，只有勇敢和有决心的人才能取得成功；只有那些为自己的权力奋战的人才能取得胜利。

In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said, “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:5). To the world, that’s about the dumbest thing that anyone ever said, along with the other beatitudes as well. To the world, it is the bold and determined who get ahead in this world. It’s those who are willing to fight for their rights who in.
You see that theme played out in all the bully scenes from the movies. Eventually, the little kid rises up to beat up the big kid, or get even with him in some other manner. He ends up with the girl and becomes the coolest kid in his class. In reality, that rarely happens. The meek, the gentle, the humble, the quiet usually end up on the losing side in this world.
Except that they don’t, really. The meek really do inherit the earth. The foolish people who believe in Jesus and take on his personality of meekness and humility really do inherit the earth. That’s what Paul says. All things belong to you, things present and things to come. This is true because you belong to Christ and Christ belongs to God. Because Jesus sits at God’s right hand, everything in this world must work for you, as he rules the world for the benefit of his Church. Because God is your Father, everything in this world and the next belongs to you. The meek really do inherit the earth.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, do not let my heart covet the power and popularity and the wisdom that the people of this world think are so important. Let my heart be content with the foolishness of believing in you. Give me a heart that is meek and humble, a heart that reflects your true glory. I ask this in your name. Amen.
