哥林多前书：10：6-10: 6这些事都是我们的鉴戒，叫我们不要贪恋恶事，像他们那样贪恋的；7也不要拜偶像，像他们有人拜的。如经上所记：“百姓坐下吃喝，起来玩耍。”8我们也不要行奸淫，像他们有人行的，一天就倒毙了二万三千人；9也不要试探主（主有古卷作基督），像他们有人试探的，就被蛇所灭；10你们也不要发怨言，像他们有发怨言的，就被灭命的所灭。
你读圣经吗？如果你读过，那你一定很熟悉旧约中那些关于以色列百姓的故事。但是当你读经的时候，你是否会问这样一个问题。“这个故事如何应用在我身上？” 在我们的生活中有拜偶像的事情吗？我手边就有现成的例子。
在我们的文化中，金钱几乎是万能的，就算不是神也和神差不多了。我们崇拜金钱吗？也许我应该换个问法，我想金钱是否太多了？这是否会导致我在做决定的时候，到底是金钱驱使我，还是对神的爱驱使我？
性方面的不道德也是大问题。我们自以为没有被我们所处的性放纵的文化所影响，但我们确实受到了影响。如果今日的电影和电视节目，还停留在我父母那个时代，我们可能真的不会受到那些影响。但随着时间的推移，我们的敏感性逐渐被侵蚀了。这些变化当然会影响到我们的心思意念。
抱怨也是大问题。以色列百姓每天以鹌鹑和吗哪为事物，有点像今天的鸡肉和燕麦片。他们抱怨，渴望吃到埃及的甜瓜和韭菜。上帝发怒了。当我们今天生活在流奶与蜜之地，在这里我们能得到各种新鲜的水果、蔬菜和肉类，可是我们每天还要抱怨吗？一颗不感恩的心就是一颗不敬畏神的心！
但是最终，圣经里的这些故事给我们留下的最重要的经验教训是：我们有一位忍耐的、仁慈的上帝。他不希望他的子民偏离正道。他用神的大能介入我们的生命，呼召我们悔改并相信他。继续读圣经吧，但记住要将这些经验教训应用到自己身上。
祷告：主耶稣，圣经里的每一个故事都是供我们学习的，藉着这些故事你呼召我们悔改并相信你。请教导我将这些故事当作经验和教训应用在我的生活和信仰中。我如此祈求是奉你的名。阿们。
1 Corinthians 10: 6 Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. 7 Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written: “The people sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.” 8 We should not commit sexual immorality, as some of them did—and in one day twenty-three thousand of them died. 9 We should not test Christ, as some of them did—and were killed by snakes. 10 And do not grumble, as some of them did—and were killed by the destroying angel. Do you read your Bible? If you do, then the stories from the Old Testament about the children of Israel are familiar to you. But when you read you Bible, are you always asking yourself the question, “How does this story apply to me?” What are examples of idolatry in our lives? I can think of one off hand. In our culture, money is almost if not actually a god. Do we worship money? Or perhaps I can ask this question. Am I thinking about money too much? Does that drive my decisions more than my love for God?
What about sexual immorality? We think we are not affected by the sexually permissive culture that we live in, but we are. If the movies on television today would have been around in my parents’ day, we probably never would have had one. But slowly over the years our sensitivity has eroded. Do you think this doesn’t affect our hearts and minds?
And what about grumbling? The children of Israel lived on a diet of quail and manna every day, kind of like chicken and oatmeal. They grumbled and wished for the melons and leeks of Egypt. And God was angry. How much grumbling do we do today, when we live in a land flowing with milk and honey? Where we can have fresh fruits and vegetables and meat of every kind? A thankless heart is a godless heart!
But in the end, the most important lesson to learn from all those stories is that we have a God who is patient and merciful. He is a God who does not want his people to wander away. He uses his divine interventions to call them to repentance and faith. Keep reading your Bibles, but remember to apply the lessons to yourself!
Prayer: Lord every story in the Bible is for our learning, a call to repentance and faith. Teach me to read every story as a lesson to apply in my life and faith. I ask this in your name. Amen.
