•1耶稣离开那里，来到自己的家乡，门徒也跟从他。2到了安息日，他在会堂里教训人。众人听见，就甚希奇，说：“这人从哪里有这些事呢？所赐给他的是什么智慧？他手所作的是何等的异能呢？3这不是那木匠吗？不是马利亚的儿子雅各、约西、犹大、西门的长兄吗？他妹妹们不也是在我们这里吗？”他们就厌弃他（“厌弃他”原文作“因他跌倒”）。4耶稣对他们说：“大凡先知，除了本地亲属、本家之外，没有不被人尊敬的。”5耶稣就在那里不得行什么异能，不过按手在几个病人身上，治好他们。6他也诧异他们不信，就往周围乡村教训人去了。
马可福音的主题是要表明耶稣真的是神。这卷福音书非常强调耶稣的神迹。人们对耶稣所行的神迹和他的教导感到惊奇。许多人相信他。他们相信他真的是上帝的儿子。但是最了解他的人，那些住在拿撒勒——他长大的地方的人，对他却很反感。他们反问，“这不是马利亚的儿子吗?”。“他的弟弟妹妹们不是和我们在一起吗?”有一种说法。“熟悉滋生轻蔑。（过度熟悉某人或某事物会导致发现缺点并失去尊重）”。耶稣说:“大凡先知，除了本地亲属、本家之外，没有不被人尊敬的。”
对于已经信了很久的老基督徒来说，这或许也是一个问题。我记得我给一个刚信主的人讲圣诞故事。当我把故事读给她听时，她眼里含着泪水说:“牧师，这个故事太美了。我以前从来没听过!”我常常会想起她的反应。当我读到和听到这些耶稣的故事时，我的敬畏感在哪里?为什么我不能像她那样看到这些故事中纯粹的美呢?那是因为我听过，读过太多次了。我对这些故事太熟悉了，从另一个角度来看，当我太熟悉这些内容时，我会允许我的罪恶本性只是一掠而过，而没有更仔细地在每个故事中寻找福音的美。
但当你看到美丽的日落怎么能不被感动呢?当你看到天上的彩虹怎么能不高兴呢?我恨恶自己罪性中的骄傲自满，阻止我被耶稣生命中的每一刻深深感动。
祷告:神啊，我曾在圣所见过你，见过你的能力和荣耀。因你的慈爱比生命更好，我的嘴唇要赞美你。我还活着的时候要赞美你，我要奉你的名举手。我必饱足，如同吃了极丰盛的食物;我的口要用歌唱的嘴唇赞美你。阿们。(诗篇63:2-5)
Mark 6:1-6: Jesus left there and went to his hometown, accompanied by his disciples. 2 When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed. “Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing? 3 Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. 4 Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.” 5 He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them. 6 He was amazed at their lack of faith. The major theme in Mark’s gospel is to show that Jesus was really God. There is a strong emphasis on the miracles of Jesus. People were amazed at the miracles Jesus did and at his teaching as well. Many believed in him. They believed he really was the Son of God. But the people who knew him best, the people of Nazareth where he grew up, took offense at him. “Isn’t this Mary’s son?” they asked. “Aren’t his brothers and sisters here with us?” There is an expression. “Familiarity breeds contempt.” Jesus put it this way, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.”
This can be a problem with life-long Christians as well. I remember teaching the Christmas story to a new convert. When I read the story to her, she had tears in her eyes and said, “Pastor, this story is so beautiful. I’ve never heard it before!” I have often thought of her reaction. Where is my sense of awe when I read and hear these stories of Jesus? Why do I fail to see the sheer beauty in them as she did? It’s because I have heard them and read them so many times. I have become too familiar with them, if you can understand that in a bad sense. I allow my sinful nature to glance at them and not look more closely for the beauty of the gospel in every story.
But how can you ever see a beautiful sunset and not be moved? How can you ever see a rainbow in the sky, and not gasp in delight? I curse the complacency of my sinful nature that keeps me from being deeply moved by every moment in Jesus’ life.
Prayer:I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you. Amen. (Psalm 63:2-5)
