2 Corinthians 3: 12 Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. 13 We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away. 14 But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. 15 Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. 16 But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, who with unveiled faces reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. (NIV)
Look at the last verse especially. The law cannot change us, only the gospel can. And the gospel transforms us into God’s image in ever increasing glory so that we reflect God’s glory to the people around us. Just think about that for a moment. Are you reflecting God’s glory in your life? Yes, you are!
We tend to look at our lives from the inside and view it through the lens of our guilty conscience. That shows us how much the law has a grip on us. It has locked us in its embrace, and we struggle to free ourselves. And yet, God has already set us free from the demands of the law in Christ, who fulfilled the law for us. It is just as important to look at what God has done in our lives instead of what we have not done.
I remember a conversation I had with a young woman a long time ago. I was just imagining what it would be like in heaven when I get there, and she wanted to know how I could be so sure of heaven. It gave me a chance to tell her about Jesus. Just my conversation reflected God’s glory, and I wasn’t even really trying. How much of our lives reflect God’s glory every day, and we don’t even realize it. Sometimes, we just need to stop, reflect, and thankful that God has accomplished what he has in our lives by his grace.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, you have redeemed me to be your own and sanctified me by your Holy Spirit through the gospel. Renew me every day so that I may be transformed into your image with ever-increasing glory. Let my life be a hymn of praise to you always. Amen.
