•“他施舍,周济贫穷;

 2 Corinthians 9: 8 And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. 9 As it is written:  “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor; their righteousness endures forever.”10 Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.   (NIV)

Paul repeats himself often in this paragraph. He uses the word all and every over and over again.  He promises that in ALL things at ALL times, having ALL that we need, we will abound in EVERY good work.  Think about those ALL and EVERY statements for a moment. When an opportunity arose for you to help someone in need, have you ever lacked for resources? Probably not.

But in our mind’s eye, we sometimes become short-sighted. We look at our checking account or our savings, and we are afraid that we may run out. Maybe it would be good for us to run out, because then we could trust in God to give us our daily bread! But has that ever happened to you?  We think we have limited resources, but Paul reminds us that our God in heaven has unlimited resources, from which he enables his people to overflow in generosity to others.

Paul quotes a verse from Psalm 112, a psalm which describes the blessed life of a believer. “They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor.” Every Fourth of July, the church I served used to have float in the parade. We would take buckets of candy and throw it to the children sitting on the curbs. It was so much fun. That’s what believers love to do.  They scatter their gifts to the poor.  It brings joy to their hearts to do it, and they are confident that “there is more where that came from.”  God makes it so much fun to be generous!

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, my generosity will never out do your generosity to me! You have blessed me in so many ways. Your spiritual gifts abound to me! Make me someone who in turn loves to scatter gifts to the poor out of thanksgiving for your gracious blessings. Amen.
